This year marked the 5th anniversary for one of Canada’s largest electronic music festivals, Bud Light Digital Dreams. After last year’s unexpected weather and cancellation debacle and the many resulting angry tweets and refunds, Live Nation was surely seeking redemption to ensure this year was one for the (positive) books. I think we were all really anxious to see what would happen as residue from last year’s experience hadn’t quite washed away. When the line-up was announced, everyone was pleased to see a decent variety of acts, despite how commercialized the festival becomes as each year rolls on, but I think we were all even more excited to see that this Canada Day weekend.
Digital Dreams erased memories of last year’s rainy wash out with two sun-filled days of ED-fuelled partying by the lake. It wasn’t quite as big as Pride, but boy did Echo Beach ever get packed on Saturday and Sunday. There were colourful outfits, spectacular light shows, and a sea of smiles as the masses greeted Eli & Fur, Tritonal, Stefano Noferini, MK, and Armin Van Buuren to name only a few.
